TRIPTYCH / performance video soundtrack - 2014
In 2013 and 2014 I composed two video soundtracks for Triptych, a small design practice run by architect and designer Tania Ursomarzo, dedicated to the idea of hand-crafted artisanal footwear. One soundtrack was composed for the promotional video created as part of the Triptych Kickstarter campaign, and the second soundtrack was written for a choreographed performance video screened at the launch party in New York in late 2014. The party was also soundtracked by an hour of Cantilever music, spanning from 2006 to the present.
The Triptych mission: “Each pair of Triptych footwear is handcrafted to the highest Italian manufacturing standards. The small factory I work with in northern Italy is a sixth-generation artisanal family business that has decades of experience producing shoes for high-end international fashion houses. Unlike many other shoes stamped “Made in Italy,” Triptych footwear is not just soled there but 100 percent manually fabricated in Italy by craftspeople who have dedicated their lives to the quality and evolution of their skill. Working with skilled craftspeople not only adds an artisanal quality to an otherwise conventional product. The innovative design of Triptych shoes, its extension of and play on the tried structures of footwear, both challenges the traditional craft of shoemaking and depends on its expertise for a successful realization. In this way, Triptych helps move artisanal shoemaking into the future, giving it relevance in contemporary shoe design.”
