MEMORY LOSS / Seven recordings of hope, despair, and gradients - 2008

MEMORY LOSS / Cantilever EP - 2008

The Memory Loss EP, released on Square Root Records as SQR009 in 2008. It began life as a series of purely digital experiments, created with a synth, a series of drum machines, and a laptop editor. Over the course of production it gradually evolved into the most “analogue” Cantilever recording to date, combining meticulously edited digital collages with violin, viola, pump organ, piano, and harmonica. The result is some vague perversion of nostalgic folk music. The EP’s centerpiece is “Endless Gardens,” one of the more acidic mid-2000s Cantilever tracks. The album also touches on post-punk landscapes with “Off Grid” and ends with the dirge-like conclusion of “Cardboard Box.”
